Water mains upgrade to start on Manchester Road in Bury

United Utilities is warning residents in Bury of disruption to Manchester Road as it works to upgrade one kilometre of water mains along a stretch of the road. 

From 10 January until early April, the North West’s water company will be modernising the network of pipes that brings water to homes in Bury to safeguard supplies for decades to come. 

As a result of the works there will some temporary traffic management required.  Temporary traffic lights will be installed at the junctions where Gigg Lane, Redvales Road, Tarn Drive and St Peter’s Road meet Manchester Road. There will also be a continuous lane closure on Manchester Road from the junction of Gigg Lane to the junction of Dumers Lane for approximately 12-14 weeks. 

Drivers are advised to plan their journeys and find alternative routes where possible. Bus users are advised to check with Transport for Greater Manchester for more information on changes to bus stops.

United Utilities is working closely with Bury Council to ensure disruption is minimised where possible.

Residents will also be contacted by United Utilities if their water supply needs to be turned off whilst the work is being carried out.  This would only be for short periods and residents would be contacted with a date, time and duration before the supply is stopped.
