Water mains upgrade project set to start in Dalston
United Utilities is set to start work on a £500,000 project to install a kilometre of new water mains in Dalston.
The project is being carried out to improve the resilience and reliability of the water network in the area. It is the first of a series of mains renewal projects to be delivered in Cumbria as part of the company’s £380m program which will see more than 925km of mains upgraded during the next five years.
Work to install just over a kilometre of new water mains will begin on the B5299 Dalston Road on Monday 15 September and is expected to take 12 weeks to complete.
The replacement mains are built to withstand high pressure and temperature variations to help protect against burst and reduce leaks.
Paul Forshaw, United Utilities’ County Business lead for Water in Cumbria explained: “This is an important project that will make our water network more robust and help us deliver a reliable water supply to customers for decades to come.
“We know this type of work can be disruptive and we are doing all we can to keep that to a minimum.”
Contract partners M Group will carry out the work in sections along the B5299, Dalston Road.
