United Utilities to hold public event at Openshaw Park

United Utilities is investing £15m to improve the water quality on a stretch of the River Roch.

The North West’s water company will be undertaking two projects at Openshaw Park and James Street to help provide storm flow screening and help mitigate against the impact its operations have. 

The company will be hosting a drop in session so members of the public can find out more about the schemes and the areas where access will be restricted during the work. 

For the project in Openshaw Park, sections of the park will be closed off to the public for up to 12 months to allow for the works to take place. 

Both projects are expected to start later this year, subject to planning permission. 

The drop in session will take place between 3pm and 7pm on Tuesday 23 May at the bowling club at Openshaw Park, Pimhole Road, Bury, BL9 7EY. 

United Utilities will work closely with the local council and community groups to ensure that disruption is kept to a minimum and that there is still access to a number of facilities for park users.  Following the completion of the projects, areas used for construction will be returned to their previous state. 

It comes as the company recently revealed that is has been able to successfully bring forward £900m of investment in the next two years to help tackle storm overflows and improve river health right across the North West.
