United Utilities issues reminder about forthcoming road closure in Bury
United Utilities is reminding residents of Bury about potential traffic disruption as its essential water mains replacement programme continues.
The water company has been working on Manchester Road to modernise the water pipes that bring water to homes in Bury in order to safeguard supplies for decades to come.
The next phase of work will take place between The Swan and Cemetery Pub to Vets for Pets on Manchester Road until 11 March 2022. Works will then pause for two weeks before the final section of pipe is replaced.
The final section of the work will involve working in the junction of Dumers Lane/Manchester Road. This phase will run from 2 April to 14 April during school holidays to minimise disruption to residents and commuters. In order to facilitate this piece of work safely, Dumers Lane will be closed from Manchester Road to Wellfield Close. Manchester Road and Millwood Court will operate under temporary signals.
Signed diversion routes will be in place as follows: drivers heading North along Manchester Road will be diverted along Radcliffe New Road, New Road, Pilkington Way, Spring Lane, Cross Lane and Bury Street. Those going southbound will divert along Radcliffe Road, Bury Road, Cross Lane and Bury Street.
United Utilities is working closely with Bury Council to ensure disruption is minimised where possible.
Residents will also be contacted by United Utilities if their water supply needs to be turned off whilst the work is being carried out. This would only be for short periods and residents would be contacted with a date, time and duration before the supply is stopped.
United Utilities is currently replacing, cleaning and refreshing more than 6,000 kilometres of water pipes across the North West to ensure the region has a reliable supply of water. More information can be found at https://www.unitedutilities.com/new-water-pipes
