United Utilities highly ranked in global responsible business index
United Utilities has been ranked as one of the 100 most sustainable businesses in the world in the Corporate Knights Global 100 index.
Strong performance across a range of environmental and social commitments helped the water company for the North West gain recognition as the highest ranked company in the water sector and secure 24th position overall.
The Global 100 list represents worldwide leaders in sustainability performance. Corporate Knights analysed and compared 6,733 publicly traded companies with a minimum gross revenue of USD 1bn against global industry peers.
The ranking is based on 25 performance indicators, including sustainable investment, carbon productivity, health and safety performance and racial and gender diversity. The list was announced during the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland this week.
Jo Harrison, Asset Management Director at United Utilities welcomed the announcement saying: “We’re proud to be ranked as one of the world’s most sustainable companies, our inclusion in
Corporate Knight’s index demonstrates our commitment to responsible business practices.
“We’re making great progress across the business to achieve our net zero ambitions whether that’s through restoring peat bogs and planting more than one million new trees by 2030, or by maximising the potential of our bioresources to generate energy that is used to power both our facilities and electric vehicles.
“Being named as one of the world’s most sustainable companies is recognition of the collective efforts being made all areas of the company and the incredible contributions from individuals and teams to support our vision for a stronger, greener and healthier North West.”
