United Utilities gives public chance to find out more about new sewer scheme in Bury
Residents in the Sunny Bank area of Bury are being invited to a consultation event to find out more about United Utilities’ plans to improve the water quality of Parr Brook.
The North West’s water company is planning to invest £2.5m to improve the water quality of Parr Brook and the River Roch by reducing the number of times a storm overflow operates in the area.
United Utilities is proposing to build a new underground storage tank on land next to Glendale Avenue and Sunny Bank Road. The new storm tank will hold 500,000 litres and help reduce the number of times the storm overflow operates during periods of heavy rainfall.
Work is expected to start on site in October 2023 with the area reinstated by Summer 2024.
Members of the public can find out more on Wednesday 13 September between 4pm and 7:30pm at Sunnybank Community Centre, 246 Sunny Bank Road, Bury BL9 8EH.
During the last two years, United Utilities has reduced storm overflow operations by almost 40%. The company has also been granted approval to make an early start on £1.5bn of investment which means that similar storm water storage projects across the region can get underway before 2025.
