Taking a peak behind the scenes at Anchorsholme Park

Over 120 interested local residents along with local councillors and Paul Maynard MP took the opportunity to take a peak behind the scenes to see first-hand how United Utilities project at Anchorsholme Park is progressing.

Steve Wong, area stakeholder manager at United Utilities said: “Quite rightly people living close to this massive infrastructure project are interested in how the work is progressing and what is going to be left behind once the construction work finishes.

“It was fantastic to be able to make the site publicly accessible so our neighbours living close by and key stakeholders could see the scale of the work taking place, ask questions and to hopefully be excited by the plans to transform Anchorsholme Park for all to enjoy, once our work is complete.”

Since 2015, the park has been occupied by engineers from the water company which is investing £80m to improve the sewer network to help continue to transformation of the bathing water in Blackpool.

Work at Anchorsholme has involved the construction of a 30 metre deep storm tank, and on the guided tour visitors were able to see the scale of the large pumping station and new long sea outfall pipe.

But the project is not just about the major sewer upgrade work. Many residents are just as interested what is going on above ground as much as below.

When the park re-opens in 2020, it is set to have a new bowling clubhouse, a café, outdoor seating area, children’s playground, sports area with tennis courts, and a relocated trim trail.
