School garden gets makeover thanks to United Utilities
Ashton Hayes Primary School near Chester has some brand new planting beds and rabbit-proof fencing after a team from United Utilities gave its garden a facelift.
Engineers from the water company were working down the road from the school, at Tarvin wastewater treatment works, when they received a request for help to refurbish its garden.
The new planting beds and fencing were installed during the summer holidays but on Friday 28 September 2018 the engineers returned to help the schoolchildren plant up their new flower beds.
Tracey Snell, a parent governor at the school, said:
“I’m a landscape architect and volunteer at the school on Friday’s to help teach the children about growing. When I started volunteering last year the garden was derelict. Over the year we started growing and using it more and more but it was tired and needed help. United Utilities and its contractor, Nomenca, have done an amazing job working on it over the summer. The result is a brilliant renovated garden that we’re going to have great fun using.”
United Utilities’ project manager, Trevor Steward, said:
“During a project we always try to give something back to the community we’re working in. In this case, we were delighted to answer a call from Ashton Hayes Primary School to help give its garden a makeover. All the team have really enjoyed visiting the school again to plant up the raised beds and we’re all looking forward to seeing the results next year.”
