N-ice surprise for 200 Morecambe families
Two hundred Morecambe families are set for a free day out at Lancaster’s festive ice rink – courtesy of engineers working on a huge construction project.
The pre-Christmas treat is a gift from water company United Utilities to make up for some of the disruption caused by major work in Morecambe.
The trips to Lancaster on Ice will go to families who have used the services of the Morecambe Bay Food Bank and include free transport donated by Stagecoach.
United Utilities is one of the sponsors of Lancaster on Ice – a pop-up ice rink and Christmas markets situated in the heart of Lancaster’s Dalton Square – which runs until January 6.
Stakeholder manager Steve Wong said sponsoring the event gave the company the chance to give even more Morecambe families a chance to go along and enjoy it.
“We’re carrying out a lot of work on Morecambe’s wastewater system to help improve bathing waters and boost the town’s incredible beaches but it’s causing some upheaval and we want to give something back to the community.
“By sponsoring events like Lancaster on Ice we can give free tickets to people who need them most. We hope people have a great day.”
Pop along to our roadshow
Plus anyone who pops along to Lancaster on Ice on December 11 or 18 can also grab some free giveaways. United Utilities will be on hand both days handing out winter advice and free fat traps to help homeowners keep water and waste pipes clear and flowing whatever the weather has in store.
Lancaster on Ice is open daily (except Christmas Day) from 10am until 10pm.
