Last chance to make a splash in the water industry

The North West’s only FTSE100 company is hunting 25 apprentices – and anyone thinking of joining United Utilities award winning scheme needs to act fast.

Deadline for applicants to the water company’s apprenticeship programme is March 10.

United Utilities – which employs 5,000 people from Carlisle to Crewe – has launched its annual search for new talent.  Successful applicants will work towards a range of apprentice standards including degree-level.  Many are in technical fields, such as water process and engineering but other subjects can be as diverse as laboratory, science and mechanical.

Apprentice Delivery Manager Jaquie Kawczak said the apprenticeship programmes United Utilities has in place were some of the best in the business.  The company is recognised as one of the UK’s Top 100 Apprentice Employers.

“Anyone who joins the company couldn’t be in better hands. As well as having our own purpose built dedicated technical training centres in Bolton and Carlisle, United Utilities lead the way in delivering industry standards for the water sector.”

Last year Education and skills watchdog Ofstead gave the thumbs up to the company’s apprenticeship programme.  Inspectors rated United Utilities’ further education training as ‘good’ and were particularly impressed with the ‘unwavering’ commitment of leaders and managers and the ‘exceptional’ facilities and resources.’

Matthew Newman who recently completed his apprenticeship, said: “I loved my time as an apprentice. I knew I didn’t want to go to university.  I wanted to work and didn’t want debt.  I gained two qualifications and went straight into a job.  It’s been fantastic for me.”

Forms must be submitted online via www.unitedutilities.com/apprenticeships where you can also find details of the roles on offer, case studies and course information.

Subject to interviews and grades, apprentices will start their courses in September 2019.
