United Utilities marks major milestone in £1.8m Alsager investment
United Utilities has reached a major milestone in its £1.8 million scheme in Alsagar, Cheshire to improve water quality in Cresswellshawe Brook and the River Dane.
The North West water and wastewater company has this week taken delivery of a new underground stormwater tank at its Cresswellshawe Road project site.
The tank will collect excess rainwater before it enters the combined sewer system, reducing the frequency of storm overflow operations and helping to protect local watercourses.
United Utilities is working from the Wood Park car park off Cresswellshawe Road and expects to complete the scheme next June.
Works are taking place during the week between the hours of 8am-5pm.
There is a partial closure to the Wood Park car park for vehicles and pedestrians, but access to Wood Park remains via West Grove and Belgrave Avenue.
The project forms part of United Utilities’ wider commitment to the largest investment in water and wastewater infrastructure in a century, with more than £13 billion being spent over the next five years to enhance rivers, lakes, and bathing waters across the North West.
Sean Reid, County Business Lead for Wastewater in Cheshire, said: “We’re working hard to deliver the largest investment in wastewater infrastructure in a century across the North West, and this is another brilliant project that will not only benefit the community, but the local watercourse too.
“We look forward to seeing how this, and other innovative schemes across Cheshire improve water quality in the North West.”
