Working to improve river health and tackling storm overflows
We understand and share the concern about river water quality and are determined to play our part in reducing pollution by tackling the spills from over 2000 storm overflows across the North West
While we have made strides in recent decades we hear that people want us to do more and do it faster. We agree and although this will take time, we are determined to get there
Since 2020 we have managed a 39% reduction in storm overflow operations and as part of our Action Plan for Cumbria we have accelerated investment in 2024 to reduce spills at 22 sites across Cumbria. We have also submitted plans to invest a proposed £3 billion with the aim of reducing spills by 60% over the 10 years to 2030.
