If I think a bogus caller is at the door, what should I do?

Always check the identification of anyone who wants to enter your home. A genuine United Utilities employee won't mind you asking for their identity card and will be happy to wait outside until you have checked their identify .

If in doubt, please call us on 0345 672 3723, so that we can confirm the identity of the caller.

If you remain unsure that the caller is genuine, keep them out, and notify the police. You can find more information about bogus callers, including a video, here.

You can protect yourself from bogus callers by registering for our password scheme. The password will only be known to you and us, and it can be any word between 6 and 12 characters long. Then, when any of our employees needs to visit you, ask them to give you the password before you let them in. If the person at your door gives you the wrong password or doesn’t know your password, don’t let them in!

For our customers who need additional help with their water services, you can register for Priority Services and choose a password.
