A stronger network for growing communities

Reservoirs, aqueducts, treatment works and a network of over 42,000 kilometres (around 26,000 miles) of water pipes help us to provide high-quality water to homes and businesses right across the North West region. As communities grow, we’re making sure our pipe network is strong and resilient to be able to meet changes and support development and increases in population. 

We're carrying out a range of improvements at our treatment works and installing new water and sewer pipes. Thanks for bearing with us, we'll provide as much notice as possible to communities around our work locations.

  • We’ll be carrying out work in Congleton to support it's growing community

    As communities grow, we’re making sure our network is strong and resilient to meet changes and support development with increases in population.

    From 22 January 2024 we'll be carrying out a programme of work to install new water pipes around Congleton, this work is expected to take around nine months to complete.

    Where will the work take place? 

    Starting from Padgebury Lane (at the junction of Newcastle Road) we'll be working in phases towards Box Lane and Holmes Chapel Road. You can find further details regarding our work here, including the route of our programme.

    How may this affect you?

    Roadworks: We do understand that roadworks can be inconvenient and we’ll do all we can to keep disruption to a minimum. There may be some temporary traffic management required, so we can work as quickly as possible - keeping you and our team safe. We’ll let you know if there are any temporary traffic lights, road closures or parking restrictions that may affect you before any work begins

    Access: We’ll try to maintain as much access as possible and you will still be able to get to your home or business. However, if you normally park on the road we may need you to temporarily move your vehicle, just while our team are working. We may need to temporarily fill some of our holes in using a different material, don’t worry this is just short term and we’ll put back all roads and footpaths as they were before.

    Your water: We may need to turn off your water several times while our team are working on your road. Don’t worry, this will only be for short periods at a time and is normally for no more than two to three hours on each occasion. We’ll be back in touch to confirm the details and will of course make sure the water is off for as little time as possible.

    Bin collections: We've liased with the local council to ensure that bin collections will remain in place during our programme of work.

    We do understand how inconvenient these types of work can be, and we apologise if our work will cause you any disruption.

  • We're working throughout Cottam installing new water pipes to support the growing community within the area. Our work along Tabley Lane is now complete.

    Latest update:

    We recently installed a section of water pipe along Sidgreaves Lane and will be returning to week commencing 22 July complete some works in the grass verge outside number 2 Buckthorn Drive.

    Lea Lane

    From Monday, 20 November 2023, work will start to install a new water pipe within private land which surrounds Crow Lady Farm and the Sitting Goose pub.  Part of our work will involve drilling underneath the new Edith Rigby Way Road.  This work is expected to be completed in summer 2024.

    We will access our work areas via the access road into Crow Lady Farm, off William Young Way, and through the existing gate off Lea Lane. 

    A temporary site compound will be located in the private field next to Crow Lady Farm to store equipment and welfare facilities for our staff.

    During our work we may have to turn off the water supply on several occasions. Don't worry, this will only be for a short period and we'll do all we can to make sure the water is off for as little time as possible. We'll be back in touch with dates and duration if you are going to be affected

  • We'll be working in Little Eccleston to construct new underground pipes that help collect rain water that falls on your home and road surface. Work began in February 2024 and will take approximately 7 months to complete.

    Latest update: In March 2024 we temporarily delayed our work due to poor weather conditions effecting our work site. After a review, our work will be resume from the 13th May 2024, weather permitting. An update will be issued confirming our return closer to the time. Thank you for your continued patience.

    What will the work involve?

    Our programme of pipe installations will begin on Sunnydale Gardens between property numbers 2-6. The work will then extend across Garstang Road and into the fields opposite.

    Before we start, we will need to carry out some preparation work. This will involve removing a British Telecom pole, relocating a lamp post and removing a section of hedgerow. This will be replaced once our work is complete.

    We’ll be back in touch with residents who may be directly affected nearer the time to provide further details on how this work may affect them.

    Roadworks:

    We do understand that roadworks can be inconvenient and we’ll do all we can to keep disruption to a minimum. There will be some temporary traffic management required along Garstang Road to help direct traffic around our working area, and to allow for access in and out of our site compound which will be located within the private field opposite Sunnydale Gardens.

  • Helmside Road

    From Monday 15th January 2024, essential pipe work will begin along Helmside Road. This work is expected to take around 2 months to complete.

    Latest update: The road closure on Helmside Road will be removed on Friday 13 March as planned. From 18 March we will begin work at the junction of Burton Road and Oxenholme Road to complete final connections. Our work is expected to take 10 days to complete, temporary traffic lights will be in place during this time.

    What will our work involve?

    We'll be working in phases starting from the junction of Oxenholme Road and Helmside Road on 15th January 2024, eventually working our way up to toward the junction of Burton Road. You can find further details regarding the phases of our work here.

    How may this affect you?

    Due to the nature of our work, we will need to temporarily close Helmside Road, to ensure the safety of the team and pedestrians. The type of equipment and machinery we need to use can be disruptive and throughout this time we’ll do all we can to keep any noise to a minimum. 

    Access: You will still be able to access Helmside Road to get to your home or driveway. However, if you normally park on the road, we may need you to temporarily move your vehicle, just while our team are working. We may need to temporarily fill some of our holes in using a different material, don’t worry this is just short term and we’ll put back all roads and footpaths as they were before.

    Bus service changes: Due to the nature of the works, there will be disruption to the local bus services. We are working closely with Stagecoach to try and find a solution to this problem.

    All bus stops on Helmside Road will need to be closed for the duration of works, we are looking to put temporary bus stops at the junction of Oxenholme Road and Burton Road to minimise the disruption for residents.
