Tankered industrial and domestic wastes

United Utilities Bioprocessing department arrange for customer tankered wastes to be safely treated at designated Wastewater Treatment Works across our region.

There are 2 routes for processing your waste, depending on whether it is domestic or industrial liquid waste.

Tankered Industrial wastes:

Selected industrial liquid waste can be received at our permitted facilities after it has undergone a technical evaluation and approval process. Wastes that we are able to accept arise from a variety of industrial processes, however the suitability of treating at our facilities is determined following a technical evaluation. We currently offer a service for approved wastes at the following permitted sites; Carlisle WwTW, Barrow WwTW, Davyhulme WwTW and Ellesmere Port WwTW.

The charge rates for tankered Industrial waste imports are specific to the waste enquiry and are only agreed following technical sign off and approval.

Tankered Domestic wastes (Septic Tank, Cesspool & portable toilet waste):

Tankered domestic waste (septic tank, cesspool & portable toilet waste) can be accepted and treated at our designated wastewater treatment works. We currently have 23 facilities where we offer this service across our region. NOTE: the householder/business where the septic tank is located would usually engage a 3rd party tanker company for the emptying or servicing of their septic tank/cesspool. United Utilities would then engage with the approved transport company in order to receive and treat this waste at our facilities.

The charge for reception, treatment & disposal of tankered domestic waste (septic tank, cesspool & portable toilet waste) is currently £13.85 per cubic meter of waste. There is also an administration charge per delivery of £20.00 per load. These rates are applicable from 1st April 2025 to 31st March 2026 and are reviewed annually.

If you are a registered waste carrier and would like to be set up with an account to access our designated facilities then you will need to be set up on our system. Please contact our team to submit your interest and request a form on 0345 072 0838 or via email at septictanks@uuplc.co.uk
