Our performance 2010/11

All water and wastewater companies, including United Utilities, report annually to the industry regulator, Ofwat, on their activities in the previous financial year. This annual submission is called the 'June Return' and it is the main source of information we provide to Ofwat. The June Return demonstrates the performance we have delivered over the last financial year as well as our performance in previous years.

The June Return contains the following information:

Board's overview

The board's overview is the executive summary of the June Return. This is the part that is reviewed by the United Utilities board. For further information on the June Return 2011 see the board's overview.

Performance tables

The performance tables display information related to our company performance over the last year. Behind each data point are detailed reporting requirements. These are written by Ofwat and inform companies exactly what must be included within that particular data set. For many of the data points there is also the opportunity to document a confidence grade. Confidence grades provide us with a mechanism to qualify the reliability and accuracy of the data we submit. For further information on our June Return 2011 performance tables see the complete list of tables.

Financial tables

The financial tables display information related to our company costs, and other financial information, from the last year. Behind each data point are detailed reporting requirements. These are written by Ofwat and inform companies exactly what must be included within that particular set of financial information. For further information on our June Return 2011 financial tables see a complete list of tables.

Reporter's commentary

Each water and wastewater company, including United Utilities, employs an independent engineering consultant (or 'Reporter'). The Reporter is accountable for auditing the non-financial data in our June Return submission. Following the audit, the Reporter prepares a commentary (or report) which is sent to Ofwat one week after our submission. For further information see a copy of the Reporter's commentary.

Some of the information collected in the June Return is commercially confidential so this has not been included in the version that we share with the public.
