Meet Oyindamola, our project manager graduate

Oyindamola Alagbala joined the 10,000 Black Interns programme in 2022. The summer scheme gave her the chance to see what working for a water company was all about, and at the end of the placement she was successful in gaining a role on the graduate scheme.

“I didn’t have any work experience in the UK so the 10,000 Black Interns programme was the ideal way to get started,” Oyinda explains. “I really enjoyed it and spoke to my team about the possibility of staying on in a graduate role, so I was delighted to get a place.”

As well as her role in construction project management, Oyinda is working on additional qualifications that further enhance her Masters’ degree in Project Management from University of the West of England, Bristol.

“There are so many learning and development opportunities at United Utilities,” she says. “The team really helps you find ways to gain new skills and challenge yourself. The whole company is invested in your future and that’s one of the things that made me want to stay after the internship.”

Oyinda is also part of the Multicultural Network, which brings colleagues together.

“The network is a great way to showcase how we all bring something different to the company,” she adds. “I’ve really appreciated the chance to get involved in promoting things like Black History Month and helping colleagues tell their stories.”
