Behind the scenes of Collections Customer Advisor
Hello, my name is Jane. I'm a Collections Advisor in the Collections department based at United Utilities' Lingley Mere site.
Prior to working for United Utilities, I worked for a distribution company and I chose to start a career here because I wanted to do a job where I could help people, plus it was closer to home.
My typical day consists of speaking to customers on the telephone who are struggling financially to help them understand what their options are and to see the best way for them to pay their water bill. Sometimes I write to customers, and I also deal with third parties, such as the Department for Work & Pensions, Citizens Advice Bureaux and Debt Collection Agencies.
My favourite part of the job is being able to help customers, and giving them the best advice I can.
I find helping people who need my assistance as quickly as possible the most challenging part of my job. I collate all the required information and make sure it's all documented so that the customer's issue can be resolved quickly.
Since working for United Utilities, I have won several awards for being a star performer.
